This cottage was built in the 1950's as a residence for a local fisherman.
It is situated on a steep hill overlooking Howth harbour and has spectacular
views of the sea.
The present owners love their home but needed to redesign in order to take
full advantage of the incredible sea views from a raised decking area at the
back. They also wanted to increase the amount of daylight in the house as
the original cottage had small windows and tended to be dark inside.
The remodelling created a new 1,500 sq. ft. space that provided an
entertaining and relaxing area.
The clients came to Marvin Architectural to discuss their specific glazing
design with one of the in-house architectural technicians. They had a
specific requirement for tinted glass as the owner had previously
experienced headaches from the glare off the sea.
A special polygon window was designed to go over a set of French doors.
The number of units used was 15+ casemaster and polygon style windows and 3
sets of French Doors. The units were painted on the inside with Evergreen
cladding to the exterior. The tinted colour chosen for the glass was a light
subtle green to blend with the evergreen cladding.
The rest of the specification included fly screens and Low-E glazing.
Antique brass hardware was chosen for the doors.
The owners were very pleased with the outcome. They commented that they were
"ecstatic" with the outcome and had highly recommended Marvin Windows and Doors to their
friends. The owner refers to the space as "therapeutic" and is the
favourite place in which to relax with friends. The Low-E glazing has also
cut down significantly on fuel bills.
