Building Regulations, Part M – Access for the Disabled
This part of the building regulations covers the factors that need to be taken into
account when constructing a building for both disabled people to live in and also for
disabled people to visit.
These factors should be taken into account at the early stages of planning. In relation
to doors, the main entrance door should give a minimum clear opening of 775 mm. Also,
the door threshold should not exceed a maximum height of 15 mm above the finished floor level.
Part M of the building regulations applies to both new buildings and existing buildings
that have been modified to create a new building.
